Ashtanga Yoga is traditionally taught in a Mysore Style class where the practitioner commits the sequence to memory and practices at his/her own pace. The teacher guides the sequence to the student assisting with hands-on adjustments and verbal instructions to deepen the practitioner's understanding of the practice, breath and focus or drishti. At Asana House you can find Mysore Style, Led Beginner and Full Primary Led classes as well as private instruction in the series. Mysore style is a self paced practice following Ashtanga Yoga sequencing. Mysore practice is the name given to the style of yoga teaching developed by guru Sri K. Pattabhi Jois at his yoga shala in Mysore , southern India . Students of all levels from beginners to advanced practice side by side. This is one of the best ways to practice learning the sequence with hands-on adjustments from the teacher. Students are given one-on-one instruction from the teacher as they progress through a set sequence of postures, starting with the Primary Series and moving gradually into the more advanced series.
"Practice and all is coming." - Sri K. Pattabhi Jois

Led Ashtanga
Led Ashtanga classes are with a teacher leading the class and instructing students in the order of the poses, usually in the primary. We will work at the level of the group and move at the group pace. This is a beneficial way to start learning about the sequencing. Attending two to three classes is helpful to get familiar with the practice and once sequence of poses is committed to memory it can be an ideal foundation for growing in your yoga practice.

Full Led Primary
The teacher guides the class thought the primary sequence. The primary sequence is called Yoga Chikitsa meaning Yoga therapy. The teacher will count out the breaths and the asana or poses in the traditional order. In the Full Primary sequence the class will move through sun salutations, standing poses, seated forward bends, twists, backbends, inversions and concludes with a breath based meditation and the closing chant.
